Spring Break '08

What do you get when you put 5 kids 5 years and under in a car and drive for 12 hours? Madness!
Here is a LONG recap of an EVEN LONGER story of our EXTRA LONG road trip. So get comfy and sit back... here we go!
Adrienne and I headed off last Sunday and set off for what we hoped to be an easy drive to visit the kids Grandparents 12 hours away. Ahh... what it's like to drive with a car full of excited kids all under the age of 5. We got off to a slow start having to stop for potty breaks and dinner, but we got to our overnight destination just late enough for all the already sleeping kids to go back to sleep. After a night over we spent the week with our families. Oh yeah, it SNOWED! ... nice. Oh yeah, and before I forget - the way home was much worse, but I just can't even begin on that!
Here are the kids late at night trying to get some energy out in a casino parking lot. It was super windy, but they had fun running around and getting their wiggles out! Even Brock got into the mix... are those jammies he's in? yes, and oh no - Ezra is taking after Britney going shoeless and all!
Our trip wouldn't be complete without someone getting sick. The night we left Brock broke out with a fever... here we are sleeping at our half way point and Brock feverish... he ended up fighting this fever most of the week - poor guy just wasn't his self! Once we got there it was all about playing with the cousins and Lucy. Here Grandma took all these kids on a walk with the dog... Um... can someone tell my husband we need to invest in warm clothes for the kids - poor Owen was stuck with Ryann's purple coat. It was really cold though - so he suffered through it.
Trip to the toy store... having fun with hats.
There was this fabulous park near my parents house. I couldn't help but think of all the fun I would have had playing tag here - there were all types of tunnels and stairs - it was pretty cool looking.
Here were some Beehive shaped caves for the little ones to hide in. OH! Let's not forget the earthquake like balancing platform... try and knock these two off - they were pretty good about keeping stable. I have to say it wouldn't be a fun vacation without seeing Uncle Joe and Aunt Tracy... Joe is so good with the kids and they all love him. (Joe so sorry we missed your band playing - I was so looking forward to it) After each long day of playing these two would crash every night in Grandma and Grandpa's bed - then we'd move them to their bed. How cute are they - they may fight some times, but they sure do love each other!
It wouldn't be a trip to Grandpa's house without going by his work and shooting at the firing range! I got pretty good, if I do say so myself... oh and the kids played too! The sisters went shopping and out to lunch - to keep the kids on their best behavior Pony rides were offered as a reward! Good job kiddies... Owen needs to work on staying next to mom - the kid tends to run off!
One of the highlights was getting together with the cousins for dinner and guitar hero! Can I just say how much fun it was to see all of you! Too bad Emily had to go home sick and miss all the fun... speaking of Emily!
We decided enough was enough of the posts... seriously I had many other things to post about and I had to keep making them about her - ahhh... well I told her I had to do one more to make it even - so here is my darling sister, beautiful as ever! Love you Em!

Yeah, you're crazy. I'd never do that. Your kids are lucky to have a brave mom.

How did you contort that last picture? That is so funny. Your poor sister... this war is great! Utah actually looked REALLY fun! That park seemed amazing. We need one like that down here. Although I guess we do have the beach, Disneyland, Sea World, etc.! That will do!

That picture of Emily is NASTY! She went a little nuts tweezing her eyebrows. Owen's jacket was awesome. He'd never know the difference. That picture of the kids sleeping is cute. How come I never saw them so sweet this trip? Jacob and Paige were 2 peas in a pod. Too cute. Thanks for cutting Sophie out of the picture with Joe & Brock. Nice.

So, I show you how to morph a picture and you use it against me. Why does that copy cats song keep playing in my head? Ahhh, little sisters...what are you going to do?!

oh yeah...I still won. That magazine cover was the best and no touch-ups on the picture too!

Your road trip up sounds about as fun as mine. The only thing worse about mine was that I was alone! Trying to go to the bathroom with a baby on your lap isn't the easiest. You two are indeed brave though!
It looks like you guys had a blast once you got there. Poor Brock!
Funny that it snowed on your trip because at 6:30 in the morning when Cate woke up (in AZ) she asked me if she could back outside in the pool because she was SO hot! Oh brother!
Glad that you called a truce, but it was fun while it lasted!
I think I need some help trying to figure out my photoshop. Your pictures are looking great!

I did a road trip like that a few years ago with my sister and six kids from CA to Idaho to meet up with our other two sisters and their 3 kids. It was crazy fun! You will never forget it:)

What fun! It doesn't look like spring break in those jackets though. As fun as the war with your sister was, I'm glad it is over and can see more regular posts.

Yikes...it is hard for me in the car with just two kids. Bennett won't stop asking..."are we there yet." As we are pulling off my street!!! It does look like a fun week though, it could have been worse...you could have been bored at home all day alone like me! By the way, Owen is looking so grown up.

Jessica you describe it all so well! I think one of my Utah roadtrips with my sister was exactly like that! That park is right by my dad's townhouse in Cedar Hills, your parents must be close too! What a memory! When can Paige come over to play?

I loved seeing your kids Jessica. So dang cute. Paige gave me some attitude but I threw some back at her. I think Brock loved the home made oreos more than I did, which is unheard of

I was so impressed with my own self when I used to drive 3 hours from Loa, UT alone with the kids to Orem. My hat is off to you!
